Horticulture & Agriculture
Dicalite offers a range of soil and soilless substrates across our three mineral offerings: diatomaceous earth, perlite, and vermiculite. Our minerals set the standard in the horticulture markets by improving soil conditions and promoting robust plant growth.
Our minerals are sourced at our deposits and processed at one of our 12 facilities across the U.S. We own and operate the mines and expansion facilities which allows us to maintain a high level of quality control and product consistency.
Our diatomaceous earth, perlite, and vermiculite set the standard for the horticulture markets by improving soil conditions and promoting robust plant growth. Using these minerals improves aeration, moisture retention, increases drought resistance and improves yields.
Our diatomaceous earth is used as a soil conditioner, which helps improve plant structure, retains moisture, and increases drought resistance. Diatomaceous earth can also be coated on pre-planted seeds to encourage optimal growth. It makes small seeds, like poppy large enough for mechanical planting and protects larger crop seeds from breaking.
Our horticultural perlite is used to to break up compacted soil for better water drainage. It maintains a neutral pH between 6.5 to 7.5 which is the ideal one for plants to absorb nutrients. It’s lighter than grit, sand, and pumice, which makes for a lighter, easier to handle product for manufacturers and home gardeners to work with.
Our vermiculite is extensively used in the agricultural markets as a catalyst in animal feed, soaking up a range of essential nutrients and delivering them slowly to animals. It also provides extra roughage and mixes easily with other materials.
